The Law is an Ass

God forbid you have a loved one who gets killed in the line of duty, overseas.

After the emotional roller-coaster you and your family go through before the body of your loved can be returned to you, the day of the funeral arrives.

Picketing in Topeka, 2005

At the funeral you find a group of anti-gay protesters clamoring throughout the service.Personally I'd claim sever emotional distress and use some buck shot to scatter them.

Neptunus Lex shows us that reality isn't so easy:

The father of a Marine slain in Iraq has been ordered to pay the court costs of the odious Phelps clan:
Lawyers for the father of a Marine who died in Iraq and whose funeral was picketed by anti-gay protesters say a court has ordered him to pay the protesters’ appeal costs.
On Friday, the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ordered that Albert Snyder of York, Pa., pay costs associated with Fred Phelps’ appeal. Phelps is the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, which conducted protests at the funeral of Snyder’s son, Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, in Westminster in 2006.
Lawyers for Snyder say the Court of Appeals has ordered him to pay $16,510.80 to Phelps for costs relating to the appeal, despite the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review the Court of Appeals’ decision.
I guess he hadn’t given enough.

Muslims demand withdrawal of rifle sights with Biblical references

An article last week in The National Post discussed the outrage felt by many Muslims after it was announced that many soldeirs in iraq and Afghanistan have been using telescopic sights with biblical references etched into them.

Muslim groups reacted angrily yesterday after it emerged that the U.S. military in Iraq and Afghanistan were using rifle sights inscribed with coded Biblical references. Michigan-based contractor Trijicon has sold up to 800,000 of the sights to the U.S. military that were being used in combat. A statement posted on the Trijicon web-site said: "As part of our faith and our belief in service to our country, Trijicon has put scripture references on our products for more than two decades." According to ABC, one of the citations on the gunsights, 2COR4:6, is an apparent reference to Second Corinthians 4:6 of the New Testament. The passage reads: "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." The Muslim Public Affairs Council called on U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates to immediately withdraw the sights.

Personally I find it very similar to what support guys used to write on their bombs 'To Hitler with Love' or tankers wrote on their rides in WWII, or even what badges and pins soldiers wore in the field in 'Nam.

What gets me isn't the outrage shown by however many Muslim councils or spokespersons but the fact that some armchair warming committee member has decided what troops, in constant danger for their lives, can have written on their equipment.

You want them to not have biblical references on their person? Provide them with equipment with better motifs - I understand that the American Flag is going down quite well with the troops these days.

Medics & Miniguns

I'm a huge fan of Micheal Yon and his reporting from today's war zones. He recently wrote an excellent article on armed medics. I wasn't sure whether or not to share it as its all a bit serious and has guns in it and I'm sure some people won't like that.

On the other hand, if I were in a war zone and had the need for a helicopter rescue squad I would really appreciate it if they were armed to the teeth.

Focus is the key

Those nice men over at Al Qaeda have a message for us brought to us by those lovely people over at CNN:

Al Qaeda's second-in-command has accused President Obama of supporting a Palestinian state that would do the bidding of Israel.

"Obama wants a Palestinian state that works as a branch for the Israeli government," Ayman al-Zawahiri said in a nearly 90-minute video called, "The Realities of Jihad and the Fallacies of Hypocrisy."

"Israel is a crime that needs to be wiped out," said

al-Zawahiri

Nice

"Obama can come with all the eloquent words he has, but it is nothing but illusions."

He had nothing but scorn for Obama's work. "What new did Obama bring us," he asked. "He brought us the bombing of Gaza where 1,000 martyrs died. He brought us the destruction in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. What else? He expanded the American prisons so they can absorb more innocent Muslims."

Cheery little bunny isn't he?
